I am not a sports fan and know little about football but had a great time. It brought back so many memories of high school. Some good, some bad, some funny. Does anyone else remember those pep club vests that you had to put on over your head and then zip up the side?
Anyway the game was great because Garnett beat out their biggest rivals (Central Heights). It is always sad to lose a Homecoming game - as we well know, unfortunately!
The weather was perfect, just chilly enough to feel like football weather but not enough to make you shiver. A full moon was rising during the game. The band was smaller than when we were in school even though there are more students now, but they were good. They played "Louie, Louie" and "The Locomotion". We decided that they chose those in honor of the class of '65.
Sitting in our group were: Norm and Mary Jane (Brooks) Cook, Denny Davis, Linda (Holmes) Macklin, Linda (Lickteig) Teichgraeber, David McDonald, Sue (Singer) Ward, Gary and Connie Wittman, and Ron Wolken
Linda Lickteig and Linda Holmes left at the end of the third quarter and Sue and I left about a minute before the game ended as it was obvious by then that Garnett was winning. She and I walked down the rail trail thinking that we would be across Park Road before the traffic of people leaving the game but a lot of other people decided to leave early as well so had a wait a little bit. Sue's sister (where she was staying) lives on the corner of Oak and Park Road and my Dad lives just across from the swimming pool.
I found out later that other class members were at the game but not sure who all other than Ron and Roberta (Hill) Romig. Their granddaughter, Reanna Romig was freshman attendant.
Mary Jane Brooks had this to say about the game: "We enjoyed the game too! Actually, Norm enjoyed the game and I enjoyed the 'fellowship' – pretty much, nothing has changed since high school…I always went for the 'fellowship' and consequently I still know nothing about football!!"
I planned to attend the Homecoming dance in hopes of seeing members of other classes. However, after a long day of partying and walking (and with another two days of reunion activities still to go) I decided not to. Charles (Harold) and Sharon Denchfield went but not sure if anyone else in the class did.
