From a 2005 email:
...after graduation, Betty, Shirley, Patsy and I got an apartment in Lawrence. I started working at Hallmark Cards and that is where I met my husband, Joe. I had a bet with Skip that I would not marry within 1 year of graduation. Guess what? He won that bet. It was so sad to hear about Skip, he was a true friend.
We were married only 5 months when Joe went into the Air Force. As a result, we were in several cities across the country: Charleston, SC, Wichita Falls, TX, and Sacramento, CA. He spent a year in Viet Nam. When he got out of the service, we moved to the outskirts of Atlanta, GA where my daughters (April and Jamela) were born. We are very blessed to have them both living within 30 miles of us. We have 5 grandchildren...
We moved back to Mountain View in 1986 and this is where we are going to stay...this is where Joe was born and raised...Joe and I are currently building a new home and doing a lot of the work ourselves. I do not know why we waited to do all of these things so late in our years, but we did. And if you think that is crazy wait until you hear this one. I am currently attending my second year at Ozarka College. I have gone straight through, summers and all, since January 2004. I will graduate in December with an AAS Degree in Business Management. It was a scary thing going back to school at my age but I have done really well. I wish I was that interested in learning back when we were in school...
I only got to spend one year of my life with all of you. We moved to Garnett in the summer of 1964. I remember going to the pool a lot that summer. I was nervous about starting to a new school but when school started, every one of you treated me just as if I had gone to school with you all through the school years. I considered it a great honor to get nominated for Homecoming Attendant, because I was new to the school. Karen and I were the two new girls in town. She was from Texas and I was from Louisiana.
I am glad that you all were part of my life and I wish life's best for each of you.
Bonnie Jenelle Thomas Thatcher
