My Teddy Bear

I have a little teddy bear
He's old as he can be
Though I squash him when I sleep at night
I think he's fond of me

His eyes are hanging by a thread
His stuffings coming out
But still he sits upon my bed
And never seems to pout

He comforts me when I am sad
He gives me good advice
I think my little teddy bear
Is awfully awfully nice

Going To Bed

This little boy is going to bed.
Down on the pillow he lays his head.
He wraps himself in the covers tight,
And sleeps with his teddy bear all through the night.

Teddy was under the lilac bush-
when the snow went away we found him there.
And one of his shoebutton eyes was lost
and the shine was gone from his yellow hair.
But Teddy blinked with his last black eye
and said that he really didn't care
(except that his cave was a trifle cold)
as long as we came and found him there.
And he said with a smile on his white yarn mouth
that REAL bears slept in a cave or lair
All through the winter...and if they could,
well then, why couldn't a TEDDY bear?

Page Ideas

• Teddy-bear page: Draw a black line all around the page except for about 3 inches on each side of the upper left hand corner - leave a little more space across than you do down. (draw the line with a pencil until you do the rest of the page).
  Cut a triangle with one right angle out of multi dot paper. Measure up 3 inches up from the corner of the paper and 4 1/2 inches across the bottom edge and cut from one point to the other (try it with scrap paper first).
  Lay the triangle diagonally at the top left of the page. The right angle corner of the triangle will be the lowest. The smallest angle will touch the line you drew at the top of the page and the other corner will touch the line you drew on the left side of the page.
  Before you adhere the triangle, put the large Teddy bear sticker under it. Put a baby rattle sticker in the bear's hand.
  The page looks like is a big blanket that is white on top and dotted on the underside with the upper left corner turned back and a Teddy bear partly under the blanket.
  Take some punched paper dots or dot stickers and place them just inside the line you drew about 1 1/2 inches apart. Also add some stitching lines just inside the line.
  Use this page for pictures of a baby or child asleep and add stitch lines around the photos. (Joan S.)

Montana Grizzly Bear Notice

In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field.

We advise outdoorsmen to wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears and to carry pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper.
